Ferris State University Center for Virtual Learning

Case Study

The Ferris State University Center for Virtual (CVL) Learning brings together the latest technologies and in-demand academic programs. The CVL prepares Ferris State Students for the new hybrid world.
With innovative facilities, fully-equipped labs, and the only purpose-built eSports Arena in Michigan, the CVL gives Ferris State students the upper hand in the latest technological advancements for their future industries.
As home to the School of Digital Media, Information Systems & Intelligence, Education, Criminal Justice and eSports Production, the center needed to have the latest and most advanced technology design and integration.

Metaversity Classrooms
The latest trend in education is the Metaversity. Post-pandemic, universities reconsidered their learning styles.
Ferris State aimed to provide virtual learners with an immersive classroom option.
Those attending virtually are fully engaged in a collaborative environment, mirroring the physical classroom. This initiative opens doors for Ferris to attract more virtual learners and expand its enrollment.

The Metaversity not only enriches the learning experience for Ferris State students but also proves invaluable for the School of Education.

Future educators are gaining essential skills in utilizing virtual environments like the Metaversity, preparing them for their roles as teachers.

eSports Facility
The eSports facility in the CVL is the first purpose-built in Michigan. As one of the first 50 schools in the U.S. to have an eSports team, Ferris State needed to stay ahead of the curve with eSports trends and facilities.
After adopting an eSports major, the eSports arena is a great addition to their ever-growing eSports team, while also serving as a hands on experience for eSports game designers, content creators, and media production students.
The eSports facility is equipped with multiple cameras and advanced streaming capabilities, enabling seamless hosting of both virtual and in-person eSports tournaments.
Faraday Lab
Ferris State’s Information Systems & Intelligence (ISI) program prepares students for careers in cybersecurity, data analyst, the FBI, and more.
The bachelors program is the only cybersecurity program in Michigan that is ABET-accredited in cybersecurity and is currently the only Cyber Security program in the United States that is ABET-accredited to be delivered 100% online. In this program, students practice and learn ethical hacking.
We designed and integrated a dedicated network infrastructure for ethical hacking purposes.

Isolated within a faraday room, this separate network ensures a secure environment, preventing unauthorized access to other devices on the main network.

Trending New Careers
The facility, equipped with a broadcast studio, multiple podcasting rooms, an eSports arena, and eSports production space, offers hands-on experiences that are impactful and align with the responsibilities of these in-demand professions.
Ferris State not only supports but actively prepares students for emerging jobs like content creation and video game design through the CVL.
Leveraging advanced technology, students gain practical skills that will undoubtedly shape their future careers.
